Welcome back to the first Tell All Tuesday of 2012. With a new year, we are pleased to have a new line up of amazing authors who will tell us all their secrets – or at least tell us a bit about themselves we always wished we knew but didn’t!

This month, I’m thrilled to welcome the wonderful SJD Peterson, one of my fellow Dreasmspinner Press and Silver Publishing authors who weaves sexy m/m tales!

Tell us a little about yourself, SJD.

Well first of all, I like to go by Jo. I’m from and still live in Michigan, which I hate! It’s just not the best place to live for someone who hates the cold!! Ummm I’m a huge hockey fan ~ Go Wings~ I’m kind of a hermit, happiest when I’m hidden in my writing cave and not dealing with too many people. My dream is to be stranded on a deserted island, (With internet access of course) and do nothing but write all day while being fanned by hot cabana boys. Oh and the one thing about me that most people who know me would say is… I’m a major smart ass J

How long have you been writing?

Being a professional student most of my life, (Degree in nursing and history) I’ve always loved writing, but it wasn’t until a couple years ago that I started writing or even reading fiction. Holy Hell is there a huge difference in writing fiction and research papers. I have learned so much and have so much more to learn, but am loving the journey!

Do you write exclusively erotic romance?

Well, that’s a tough one. My first story Lorcan’s Desire, really couldn’t be classified as a romance, since it doesn’t have your classic Happily Ever After or even Happily For Now. I like to keep my writing as real as possible and that means that life doesn’t always work out the way we want it too. Bad things happen to good people and it’s how we deal with those obstacles that define us. That being said, I am a true romantic at heart, and eventually my characters get their HEA they just have to work for it before they deserve it!

What inspires your stories?

Everything! From music, movies, books, dreams, people on the street… the list is endless. I have a muse who is ADD so I’m usually having to write down story ideas he keeps throwing at me.

How do you choose a publisher? Who are your current publishers?

When I sat down to write Lorcan’s Desire I knew I wanted to send it to Dreamspinner Press. It being my first story I didn’t hold out much hope. I figured I’d have to put in my time, learn the craft, but it was my goal to be with DSP. You can imagine my shock when they contracted it. Nearly a year later I’m still waiting to wake up from the dream! I knew I would send all the books in the trilogy to DSP so when my naughty muse decided he wanted to write about Brycen and John in “Simple” I sent it to Silver Publishing as I had heard so many wonderful things about them, and I wanted a Reese Dante cover J Those are the two publishers I’m with. I have written nine stories and all nine have been contracted so I’m pretty happy with my publishers and the results so I don’t have any plans on adding a third publisher anytime soon.

What is your latest release?

Carrick Masters and Edward Boyd have already found true love—it’s the happy ever after that’s eluding them. Between Carrick’s job as an orthopedic surgeon and Ed’s career as a defense attorney, they have hardly any time to spend together, and what time they do have seems to be poisoned by resentment. Carrick and Ed know they need to refocus to make their marriage work, but they seriously need more than a spicy once-a-week date night to get them back on track.

Originally, this story was written as part of the Goodreads Stuff My Stocking anthology. The response to the characters were overwhelming and I gave in to the requests and the muse, taking a break from the Whispering Pines Ranch series to write Carrick and Ed’s story!

What is your writing process like? How long does it take you to finish a story from beginning to end?

My Muse is constantly whispering to me. When he gets loud enough I finally give in and sit down to start the story. I normally start out with an idea, come up with the first paragraph, and then turn it over to the muse until THE END is written. Funny how it happens, it’s almost like I’m on a journey with the characters and the story doesn’t always go the way I thought it would. Lorcan’s Desire for example was planned to be a one book stand-alone book. However, when I got to 150k and it still wasn’t have way done, I decided then to turn it into a series about the three phases of Lorcan and Quinn’s Journey.

Is writing your full-time job? If not, how and when do you find time to write?

Writing is my full time job. I took some time off from work to focus on writing, but I do work contingency (pick and choose my shifts) when I need extra money for stuff like NEW FURNITURE for my new house J

Do you have other published works? Please tell us about them!

Lorcan’s Desire and Quinn’s Need, (book one and two of the Whispering Pines Ranch series) have been released through Dreamspinner Press.

The third book in the series, Ty’s Obsession will be released February 6, 2012.

Leon a short Christmas story came out in December as part of the Dreamspinner “I’ll be home for Christmas” anthology

Simple was released by Silver Publishing in July of this year and they will be releasing Battle Buddy in April of 2012. The rest of the books have a TBD release date J

What do you love most about writing?

I love the freedom of traveling off to other worlds. It’s funny that I always thought I was the story teller, but I’m the one with the idea, my characters take on a life of their own and not once has a book ended the way I thought it would. I adore watching a story, mold and shape and not never knowing how the story ends until we arrive at THE END.

Who are some of your favorite authors and books?

Margaret George who wrote The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers. (Yeah I know I’m a huge history geek) But if I had to choose authors I’ve been reading over the last year, I’d have to pick Josh Lanyon (The Adrien English Mysteries rocked!!!) Also adore new Author TJ Klune. His book Bear, Otter and the Kid was absolutely stunning! Scotty Cade, (The Love Series) and Sue Brown (Nothing Ever Happens) Ohhhh and I can’t forget Chris Owen (Bareback is highly highly recommended) I could spend the rest of the day going on and on about the wonderful authors I’ve read in this genre, but I have writing to do today ~wink~

Livin' it Up the Steampunk Way

Since it's release date, my new m/m novella THE REVOLUTIONARY has been on the steampunk bestseller list over all All Romance eBooks here!

THE REVOLUTIONARY is different from many steampunk stories that are out there in several ways. The biggest difference is the wild west setting. Traditionally, steampunk may take place in either a Victorian English setting or western -- but most writers tend to gravitate toward the Victorian era. I really like cowboys, and I wanted to be different, so the wild west drew me in!

If you've ever heard me talk or comment about this story, you've heard me say that the two heroes in this series are my favorite. I know a parent isn't supposed to pick favorites (and, after all, the characters in our stories are like our kids), but I can't help it. Damian and Kell hooked me the moment they found their way into my dreams -- and I've been their slaves ever since!

THE REVOLUTIONARY is the sequel to THE OUTLAW and together these two stories tell how Damian and Kell find each other, battle their inner and outer demons, and find love.

In a recent review (by someone who has read both stories), Pixie at MM Good Book Reviews here wrote: "What a brilliant conclusion for those of us who wanted more of Damian and Kell. . . . Today is the long- awaited release day of THE REVOLUTIONARY, my m/m steampunk western novella sequel to THE OUTLAW!

As 2011 comes to an end, I've reflected on a year that brought happiness and sadness. Some joys and some pain. Friends who have come and gone. Resolutions made and followed through on, and others not. I was very fortunate this year to have had many new releases -- more than in 2010.

I hope to have many more in 2012. And although I know there will be ups and downs, I am looking forward to the adventure that is in store for me and all of my friends, family, and readers. Mahalo for your support. For you, here are a few tokens of my gratitude:

Tell us a little about yourself, Elise Hepner.

Elise Hepner lives with her two spastic cats, two hyperactive ferrets and a very supportive, slightly crazy husband. There is never a dull moment in the house, unless the caffeine runs out, which it never does. She’s a multi-published erotica author in both ebooks and print. She’s driven by her tea addiction and a tiny stuffed turtle her husband picked up from Disney World that sits on her desk and “supervises” her work. Do you write exclusively erotic romance?

I write erotica and erotic romance though I’m only just dabbling into the erotic romance waters and loving every minute of it. When I first started my main background was in erotica so it’s still my fun go-to bread and butter.

How do you choose a publisher? Who are your current publishers?

My favorite way to pick a publisher is to see where my favorite authors are working and then do some hardcore research on the publisher including sales, repeat authors, contract, and covers. If my favorite authors have written more than three books for that publisher in the last year, I know it’s good. Currently I’m published with Excessica, Cleis Press, and Ellora’s Cave.

What is your latest release?

“What in Christ’s name…”

I must be hearing echoes from the town nearby, where Mother sells her herbs and braided goods. No one ventures this far toward my tower because Mother’s gone to great lengths to see that they don’t—bear traps are her new favorite method of discouragement. Once one life is claimed, I imagine word spreads fairly quickly to stay away from the area. Why then are there hoof beats that make my head pulse with a slight pain?

There’s no understandable excuse I can delude myself with any longer. Before I can focus on the consequences, I swing my head out the window into the oppressive, humid summer air. Just the very top of his head is visible, his hair brushing past his cheekbones, glowing from the sunshine and shot through with gold. Never have I seen a color so close to my own before—not that I see many people.

For a few moments I can’t quite come to terms with his presence and it’s not for a lack of staring that my pulse inevitably echoes inside my head like an overbeaten drum. This is my chance. Mother won’t be back for quite some time with her wares. He’s circling the tower, slouched over a horse who looks a bit like a nag. Certainly not a proper horse for a man with such fine clothes in gorgeous colors and sumptuous fabrics.

There’s no going back from this moment. It’s a certainty that makes my teeth chatter in a wash of cold fear, despite the heat, and my hands clasp around my middle as I try to hold myself together. He hasn’t looked up yet, more intent on studying the free-standing structure than noticing my shadow plastered across the grass. My mind is desperately working out what I’ll cry out to him. Even as my throat closes with an infusion of happiness that makes me rock on my feet.

“Excuse me?” A tentative question I’m not sure he will hear because it can’t be any louder than a frightened whisper. “Sir, you’re really not supposed to be here.”

Somehow, I’ve managed to make this part louder because he glances up—and his slack-jawed expression is a blow to my chest. He possesses the most gorgeous cobalt blue eyes. Underneath my ribs, the pain grows until taking a full breath is hard. Mother is right, he hasn’t even overcome his shock as my heavy plait of hair rests down the stone side of my prison. He’s not to be trusted.

What am I thinking? He won’t even come near me to aid my escape and his eyes are swamped in confusion—and there’s a flash of unreadable emotion that I refuse to question. He must leave here now and I must somehow convince him to bring no one back with him. I won’t be paraded around for anyone’s amusement. This man has made a mistake coming here.

Yet, there’s still a part of me that grips the windowsill until my palms are numb and that clings to the hope that he will at least acknowledge me. So long since I’ve had any kind of normal conversation. One that didn’t revolve around my hair, my rules or my mother’s day. Won’t he say anything? I’m as trapped by his thick silence as I am by the beauty of his face.

“Please, you must go and tell no one about what you’ve seen. You shouldn’t have ignored the traps. They are there for a reason.”

I don’t know how I’ve gotten that all out because my main focus lies on the foreign stirrings of heat in my cheeks as the pulsing sensation twists lower in my abdomen. What is happening to me? With a certainty that surprises me, I find myself clenching my thighs together, only to have the subtle touch of flesh-on-flesh be more than I can bear. He has yet to take his gaze from mine and a shudder slips up my spine.

“How long have you been here?” His voice carries the strain I hold back and I’m slightly put at ease that at least we are on similar ground. “Who did this to you?”

“For a man who is about to leave, I don’t believe it matters.”

The words barely tumble out of my mouth before I clamp my hand over my lips. I hadn’t meant to be so harsh and instantly regret it. He is so handsome—and these sudden urges, they are overwhelming and confusing to the point where I wish to completely remove the problem. My lips part in an apology and I watch a jovial grin span from ear to ear as he laughs at me until I can’t hear anything but the frantic beat of my heart.

Who is this man? Now he stares at me with a playfulness that washes a wave of goose bumps across my flesh. He doesn’t seem offended, merely amused at my suggestion that he leave. To further that fact, he quickly dismounts and ties his horse to a nearby tree branch. While I can only stare at the way his tight riding boots and breeches hug his muscular body from his calves all the way up to his perfectly rounded buttocks.

Though I’d learned of desire from my mother—and all its wicked principles—I never expected it to rear its head in my lonely, simple world.

However, now my life spirals out of control quickly enough that I tilt back against the wall to my left and watch with trembling hands. This mysterious man climbs the wall of my tower as if it had been built to be climbed so easily—without any aid from my hair. One strong, sun-kissed hand and booted foot at a time. When he offers up his hand to me to pull him over the side, what choice do I have? Even a man that strong would eventually grow tired and plummet to his death—and I want him tucked close to my body, not on the ground.

“I was beginning to wonder what it took to get some assistance.”

He softly grunts and clasps my hand hard enough that I gasp as I shift my weight to pull him over the side. Muscles I didn’t know existed inside me burn with sharp pain from disuse because of my isolation. His touch radiates heat all along my arm. If it wasn’t for his precarious situation, I would fight to pull away on instinct—but as it is, he manages to throw himself into my home with as much grace as a charging boar—and he trips, falling on top of me and sending us to the hard, stone floor.

His surprisingly soft hand brushes the hair out of my face and lingers, gently stroking, down my cheek. Should I be frightened? Probably. At the moment I can’t bear the thought that my first sincerely gentle touch from a man would be anything but special. His sharp leather scent surrounds my tingling skin.

“Isn’t this a day for surprises?” His gaze cuts through all the fear inside me and his mouth holds the subtle curve of a half smile. “I should move myself off you, this isn’t proper at all when we’ve barely been introduced.”

Yet he doesn’t move an inch.

A realization whips through my mind and would have left me on the floor if I wasn’t already pinned there by a gorgeous man who touches me with such reverence I might weep. When will this happen again? After this twisted, meandering path of fate, there is no doubt I will be alone again—and I want a loving memory to cling to at night when my old fears tighten my chest until I can’t breathe. This is a choice I can make for myself. And I won’t live the rest of my ordinary, sheltered life not knowing true passion when it burns across my skin.

“They call me Rapunzel.”

What is your writing process like? How long does it take you to finish a story from beginning to end?

My process is kind of time consuming because my first draft is always at least the first in a four-step process to get my book ready for submission. I always know that my first draft will be awful, second draft will tighten the plot and scenes, third draft will tighten the sex, and fourth draft will be an overall edit for grammar, style, and formatting. It’s a long process but it keeps me from tackling everything at once without going nuts.

Is writing your full-time job? If not, how and when do you find time to write?

Writing is my full time job and I generally work 16 hours a day writing, editing, and promoting my books.

How do you market your work?

I’m really big on Blogger and I’m absolutely obsessed with Twitter. I’m on there all the time and it’s the best way to get a hold of me.

Who are some of your favorite authors and books?

Richelle Mead, Sommer Marsden, Charlotte Stein, Stephanie Draven, Stephanie Dray, Meljean Brook, Kate Pearce, The Parasol Protectorate Series are a few of them.

After a summer break, I’m thrilled to bring back my favorite posts – Tell All Tuesdays – when fabulous writers join us and tell us all their secrets! Today I welcome my fellow Ravenous Romance author Courtney Sheets. Courtney also happens to hail from the state where I now live – Paradise, USA.

Welcome Courtney, tell us a little about yourself.

How long have you been writing?

I have been writing since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Seriously I use to write bad poetry on the floor of my mom’s kitchen. When I say bad, I mean really bad. That being said though, I didn’t start writing seriously, i.e. toward publication, until around 25. I think I always knew I was going to be a writer and that was when it finally hit me like a thunderbolt, as we Italians say.

Do you write exclusively erotic romance?

No, I write everything really. My published stuff right now is all erotica/romance but I’ve written plays and screenplays and other genres as well. I am currently working on a screenplay about the Last Queen of Hawaii as well as a mystery/thriller with a noir edge to it. I write what my brain and heart tells me to write when I sit down at the computer or typewriter.

What inspires your stories?

I was at the doctor’s the other day and the nurse asked me this very same question and it was truly difficult to answer. Sometimes is it something as simple as a song lyric that hits my brain when I am driving the commute to work. For example, one of my favorite bands is Great Big Sea. I was listening to their song “Boston and St. John’s” and I got the idea for a short set in Newfoundland. Other times it might be a newspaper article I read. This is how I came up with the idea for my WIP set in South Africa. There have been times when I’ve watched a movie and a secondary character has worked their way into my head and written themselves a whole adventure. The idea for my first novel, Kona Warrior, came from taking a tour of the Kilauea Volcano in Hilo. The ideas truly come from everywhere

Mmmmm, anything with the words “Kona” and “Warrior” has got to be good! There’s nothing like a buff Kona man!!

How do you choose a publisher? Who are your current publishers?

Sometimes when I am working on a piece I have a specific publisher in mind. The South African WIP is going to be queried to Harlequin Blaze. Other times, I just write and send the finished product out and see where it lands, if it lands at all. LOL

Currently I have works contracted with Ravenous Romance and Decadent Publishing. I would love to someday write for Harlequin and Kensington.

What is your latest release?

The last thing I had published was a short called “Banshee Nights” in the THREE’S A CHARM anthology for Ravenous Romance. The next book I have coming up is “The Hooded Man” which will be with Decedent Publishing. I don’t have a launch date as of yet because we are working on the edits phase right now. The cover is wicked!

This one is truly my baby.

What is your writing process like? How long does it take you to finish a story from beginning to end?

It really depends. I can sit down and write a 2K short in about two days but I full novel will take me much longer. I have to write linearly as well. I know some authors can jump around from scene to scene and then stitch them together for the finished product. When writing fiction, I simply can’t do it that way. I’ve got to start at the beginning can write in a sequence of events. That said though, when working on plays and screen stuff I can write it out of order.

How long it takes me varies from piece to piece. Kona Warrior, which was my first, took me about a year to write. Now that I have several under my belt so to speak I write a little faster. Still, it can take me several months or longer to finish a novel.

I write using different means as well. Sometimes I use the computer, other times I use pen and legal pads. I like the cheap yellow ones because it makes me feel very old school. I also have two typewriters that I use as well. One is an electric Smith-Corona from the 1960s an amazing pair of friends gave me. The other is a Underwood from the 1940s.

Is writing your full-time job? If not, how and when do you find time to write?

I work full time for a utility company as a billing analyst. I also go to school full time right now in order to finish my bachelors. This means I get to write in the evenings and on weekends. Sometimes I write at lunch but more often than not I’m reading someone else’s works at lunch. LOL. I am a true night-owl and stay up late most nights so it gives me time to write or do any theatre projects I might have going. I’m an arty monster and would love to find a way to make that my full time life.

Do you have other published works? Please tell us about them!

I have a couple of shorts with Ravenous Romance as well as a full length novella. The shorts are “Casting Couch” which is in the Once Upon a Threesome anthology, and “Banshee Nights” which is in the Three’s a Charm antho. The full length is called Kona Warrior.

Kona Warrior deals with a shark aumaka (which is a Hawaiian guardian god) and a mortal woman who find love while trying to save her ancestral home on the Big Island of Hawaii. It’s part of series but this is the only one that has found a home as of yet.

Casting Couch is your typical starlet who will do anything to get the part, even if that means doing the director and the leading man. Set in the 1920’s. I love old Hollywood so this was a fun one to write.
Banshee Nights deals with a young man out to save his sister from King Finvarra, king of the fairies. He ends up giving himself to Finvarra and a beautiful Banshee.

Currently working on a series dealing with the Greek and Egyptian gods as they battle for supremacy over the Las Vegas Strip. It is in the hands of an editor at one of the big publishers so we’ll see where that leads.

The Hooded Man, which will be published by Decedent Publishing, deals with a new twist on the Robin Hood legend. Robin Hood is a true obsession of mine, just as my friends and family, and this book is my baby in every sense possible.

I love that we share a couple Ravenous anthologies – full of super sexy shorts!

How do you market your work?

I use twitter, facebook, ads on review sites. I do guest blogs with other writers and pretty much hound people about my books. LOL I have two blogs that are writing relate that I use.

I also sometimes reference my writing work in my history blog. This blog deals with the naughty and scandalous side of history. www.historysmistress.blogspot.com

What do you love most about writing?

Creating a whole new world and people to populate it. Also when I write something set in a far away exotic place, I get to go there in my mind with my characters. Writing lets you walk away from your own life and world and have an adventure. My heroes for example are always men I would be interested in myself. My heroines are always strong but have soft sides. Writing lets me go places like South Africa, India, Montreal, etc. Places I may one day get to see and experience myself but for now can’t. When I send my characters there, I get to go too. Same thing when I write in a different time period. I can rub elbows with Humphrey Bogart and Jane Russell or wear hoop skirts and watch Lee surrender at Appomattox all by putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, or fingers to typewriter.

Who are some of your favorite authors and books?

In the romance world, I love Vickie Lewis Thompson. I think I have every single one of her books in paperback. Love, Love, Love her. I also love Marie Donovan and Karen Foley.

In the mystery realm, I am huge fan of Cleo Coyle and her Coffeehouse Mystery series, Julie Hyzy and her White House Chef series, and Karen Foley and her Tattoo Shop mysteries.

I’m a huge history whore so Sarah Vowell and Doris Kearns Goodwin are on the auto buy list as well.

Armand wrapped his long, thin fingers around Raden’s wrist and moved his hand to his back. He then brought the other hand around. Another clink. A snap. Raden’s hands were bound by cold metal.

Armand pressed his body against Raden’s chest and used his weight to push him forward. Raden fell onto the bed, the back of his legs hitting the mattress.

In silence, Armand removed Raden’s jeans and briefs. He wore only a T-shirt, which Armand ripped at the sides to release it from Raden’s broad arms.

“Spread your legs and bend over,” the Regent ordered.

A Disclaimer on Story Length

I'm thinking that perhaps now is the right time for a disclaimer. Perhaps I should have given one before? I'm not sure anyone would have caught it, but I'll give it now nonetheless.

No . . . this isn't a disclaimer about how I write erotic romance. This is not a disclaimer about the fact that some of my stories border on erotica (or fall smack dab in the middle of erotica). This is not even a disclaimer about how I frequently write about gay and lesbian romance, multiple partners, or (what I like to call) "light" BDSM. Because I do. And if you read my stories, you know I do and presumably you don't mind!

This is a disclaimer about the fact that I often write short stories! Yes. SHORT STORIES!! Can you believe it? I write novellas too. And I have two published novels with another on the way. But the majority of my published words are short stories.

Why do you write short stories, you may ask? Lots of reasons. I love that the characters must meet, spark a relationship, get down and dirty, and have a HFN in so few words. Having written all lengths, I find that it is a totally different kind of ability to write a novel versus a short story versus a novella. I hope that I do each length of story justice.

I give the disclaimer so that anyone who reads my stories goes into to them with their eyes wide open, so to speak. Especially for the short stories -- please know they are short. If you do not want to read something that is short, or you didn't know I write such lengths -- now you do. I've never had a reader comment that a novel was too long, but I have had readers comment that stories are too short. Indeed -- they are intended to be.

I don't give this disclaimer out of any disrespect for my readers or reviewers, it is just what it is. I appreciate everyone who reads and reviews -- you know I own you my greatest mahalo!

PC or Mac?

You know, for years I was a PC guy, but I'm a complete Mac-head now. They're just so user friendly! In fact, I have a Mac with a dual monitor set up, and wireless keyboard and mouse. And an iPad for travel.

Now you’re starting to sound like my better half – a totally Mac geek!!

Any guilty pleasures?

LOL I'm pretty open about all my pleasures, so I don't know how guilty they are! I unabashedly enjoy porn, chocolate, and hot showers that are way, way too long.

It's no secret you're a transgender male and your husband is a straight man. What's that like for you?

It's different. He's not into the male form at all, so there's no opportunity to ogle porn with him, or point out other men. We've made compromises for each other…he gets to call me by my legal name instead of Daniel, and I get to present to everyone else as a male and he stands behind me 100%. It works for us.

And what are Hubby's thoughts?

He misses frilly underwear. LOL But he's very accepting of me and my feelings about who I am inside. He realizes the struggle behind not seeing yourself when you look in the mirror, and he believes that everyone should have the opportunity to be who they are.

Do you have any pets?

I do! I have Mindy - a Parsons Jack Russell, Wallace – a Pug Mix, Higgins – a Miniature Pinscher, Duncan – a West Highland Terrier, Sassy – a black cat who hates me and loves Hubby, and Lollypop – a flat-faced snot nosed Himalayan. They were all rescues, except for Sassy, whom we got as a kitten from a woman Hubby worked with at the time.

What does your writing space look like?

It's smaller than it used to be. I've got a custom writing desk that Hubby built for me, with a bookcase at one end (which holds all my reference books) then a regular desk next to that one (they sort of form an L), and a big filing cabinet on the other side of that.

What's your favorite reference book?

I've got two books I go to for terminology and inspiration for sex scenes, which are "The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Men" by Bill Brent, and "Lesbian Sex: 101 Lovemaking Positions" by Jude Schell. These are also helpful for figuring out if your character can realistically move the way you want them to move during the act (which is a mistake I see done commonly). For writing, I still rely on "Scholastic Guides: Checking Your Grammar." It's a kids' book, really, but I find it very useful.

Those both sounds like great book! All I have is lists on pieces of paper that I write notes and words on as I come across them. The papers are starting to tater . . . maybe I should invest in these!!

Do you have an Amazon.com wishlist? What's on it?

LMAO I do! All of the "Toybag Guide" books are on it. Those are some wonderfully handy references, and very small. The Complete A-Team tv show is on there, as is the complete Pretender series, and old fashioned leather razor strop, and Underworks Mens Microfiber Compression Tank 3-pack, and a book called "Dead Men Do Tell Tales" by William R Maples, PhD.

What's your favorite kind of food?

Anything gluten free! LOL Seriously, I love Southern food, but it doesn’t love me back!

What is your favorite color?

I like them all, really. Although I'm not overly fond of pink.

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladened swallow?

LMAO What do you mean? An African or European swallow??

And speaking of swallows… Spit or swallow?

Swallow of course!!

I wouldn’t have expected any other answer! LOL!!

This month on Tell All Tuesday we have my good friend and first time published author Kayla Jameth! Kayla writes erotic m/m romance – and inspires others with the sexy pics she frequently posts on Facebook (cup of Joe, anyone?).

Tell us a little about yourself, Kayla.

Let’s see… I’m a country girl who somehow found herself in Houston, Texas. I’ve always been a bit of a tomboy and hung out with guys more than girls. I’ve done all kinds of things from cross-stitch and costuming to welding and making maple syrup. What can I say? I have rather eclectic interests.

My interest in m/m started when I saw my first m/m kiss on the anime Yami no Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness. I was instantly hooked. I found a friend with similar interests who told me to read “Without Reservations.” The rest is history.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing for a little over a year now. I’m still very new to all of this, although I hope to change that!

Do you write exclusively erotic romance?

So far m/m romance/erotica is the only genre I’m writing. But that doesn’t preclude other genres.

What inspires your stories?

The first story was inspired by a desire to find some good Samurai Champloo slash. I had read some fanfiction and was disappointed by the author’s use of the characters’ names, but nothing else from the anime. So I commented to a friend that I could do better. She insisted that I prove it. After another friend read my slash, she pointed out an m/m fairy tale anthology. I came up with what I felt was a plausible Cinder-garcon. All my subsequent original works have been based off of intriguing photos. I like to look at them and puzzle out how the characters got to that point. It works well for me.

I’ve read both of those stories and really enjoyed them! I’ve always been proud to be one of Cinder’s fairy godmothers! How do you choose a publisher? Who are your current publishers?

My current and only publisher is Breathless Press. I didn’t so much choose as was chosen. The owner read one of my works I had posted on a site and offered me a home. I asked you and DC Juris about the publisher and heard such good things that I accepted.

What is your latest release?

My m/m/m short story “Legends” is in the Breathless Press anthology Ad-dick-tion. It is my first published story, although I have two current works in progress. The first one, “Alexios’ Fate,” I will be submitting to Breathless Press as soon as I get it back from my betas. The other, “Controlled Fall,” is going to be in the Goodreads m/m group’s anthology Hot July Days. The free read will be available for download on the Goodreads website in July.

Here’s a blurb for LEGENDS:

What is your writing process like? How long does it take you to finish a story from beginning to end?

I’m what’s called a pantser. I only have the vaguest idea of an outline. I know how it starts and ends. I even know some of the stops along the way, but I just usually let the boys tell me what they want. I often find myself going off in a different direction than I had originally envisioned, but the story tends to have more depth when I do that.

How long it takes me to write something depends on what I am writing. The original Samurai Champloo slash I wrote only took me 4-8 hours to write a 2.5-3K chapter. Cinder wanted to be written so the first part flew onto the paper and when I slept and came back to it later took days to write the second half.

My last two works also flew onto the paper. It took me about a week to write “Alexios’ Fate.” But with beta reading, rewriting and another round of beta reading, it will likely take a month to get this one ready to sub.

Then of course, there is “Morning Star.” I don’t know how long I have been working on that one. I haven’t done anything with it in months.

Is writing your full-time job? If not, how and when do you find time to write?

I, like many other authors, have the Evil Day Job. Well, I must admit the job isn’t really evil. I actually like being a veterinarian. I do my writing on weekends and after the kids go to bed.

Do you have other published works? Please tell us about them!

I don’t have anything else published at this time, but I intend to see that change. Look for the Goodreads anthology and hopefully “Alexios’ Fate.”

How do you market your work?

At this point, I don’t have a marketing strategy. My first story has just released and I am getting an author’s page set up on Amazon.com and Goodreads, but have to wait until they verify I am in the anthology. I am considering a blog. Under pressure from a slash fan, I would likely put “Infinite Infatuation,” my Samurai Champloo slash, on the blog as a free read.

What do you love most about writing?

Good question. I think I like puzzling out how the people in the photo got to where they are in a plausible fashion. I hate the “because I need it to be that way for this story to work” angle. I also like all the research. I love finding out new and interesting things. Sometimes I get so into the research I don’t get much writing done. I will research something that I may only mention once. Like the hinges for my ancient Greek piece. They only appeared in one sentence, but I didn’t want that to be the thing that threw the reader out of the story. Yes, they had hinges long before the story took place.

Who are some of your favorite authors and books?

In the m/m genre, J.L. Langley’s Without Reservations was the first m/m story I read. I loved it and anything else she writes.

K.A. Mitchell, T.A. Chase, Joely Skye, Drew Zachary, Ally Blue and Jet Mykles are at the top. I also like a certain author’s Outlaw series…

In the fantasy/science fiction CJ Cherryh is my all time favorite. No one else can do such a good job of creating an alien world. If I ever get half as good as she is, I will have arrived.

Andre Norton, Dave Duncan, JRR Tolkien, Patricia McKillip, and numerous others. I even like reading Shakespeare and Homer. Pretty much anything that’s good.

This is one of my most happy release days ever!

Of Angels and Men

I've been in a short story mode lately. This always seems to happen for a while after I finish a novel -- I think my brain needs to break from writing a longer work. So those novel writing projects I mentioned before? Still working on them, but concentrating on shorter works like the novella sequel to my Dreamspinner novella The Outlaw -- The Revolutionary, the newest edition of my m/m western steampunk takes the Outlaw and the Bringer into the arms of revolution.

Speaking of arms . . . my current short project is of angels. You know the kind.

This is the archangel Michael. The inspiration and hero of my story. Michael is said to be the commander of the army of God. Except my Michael looks a bit more like this:

In my story rather than fighting for the holy, Michael takes a different path. A bit of a break from his day-to-day job. For centuries, Michael has been in love (and lust) and he finally gets the chance to live his fantasy.

It is a work in progress, so I won't give away the ** juicy ** details -- but I hope not to disappoint!

In the Oven

I seem to go long periods of time without updates on what I have going on in the writing front. So what do I have cooking in the oven?

I'm in the editing stage for my novel DIRTY HOUSEWIVES which will be released through Ravenous Romance. I got some fabulous edits back from my editor and I'm working hard to get them done.

My short story ROOM NUMBER TWELVE will be included in an anthology through Breathless Press that is slated for release on June 3. The anthology includes a lot of fabulous stories -- including a debut by my good friend Kayla Jameth!

I am in the editing stage for my newest Dreamspinner Press Release called AS SEEN ON TV. I'm excited to get this cover for this one -- a hot m/m that takes place in Hawaii :)

I have decided to give my first baby - a m/f vamp novel called ETERNAL PARADISE another chance in the sun. I have the manuscript to my agent for her to review and she has some ideas on where to sub it. I absolutely love the story and would be thrilled if it found a home.

A couple days ago I submitted a short story to a Dreamspinner Press pirate anthology. The story is called ABOARD THE AVENGER and is set in outer space.

I also have another novel (yes, its NO BRAINER) and a couple more short stories that are in submission mode.

See? Even though I haven't said anything, I've been cooking!! Lots of yummies to come!

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Today is a very special edition of TELL ALL TUESDAY. My guest is a man you’ve met here before. JOHNNY MILES. In the past you’ve been introduced to him as a fabulous gay erotic romance writer. Now, I introduce you to him as someone who wants to teach us how much WORDS MATTER. Take it away, Johnny . . .

Born and raised in the ghettos of New York, I was no stranger to poverty, hunger, and going without. The apartment we lived in was small and infested with mice and roaches, regardless of how much mom cleaned. But at least it was home and, because we lived in a small building, everyone knew everyone.

Because of this, and perhaps because mom was overprotective, I managed to escape some of the harsher realities of the inner city blight. Whatever the reason, I also attribute a great deal of my ability to escape to books, and the power that lies within their covers.

You see, books transported me to a different world where I could forget hunger and that we wore “Rejects” while other kids feasted off McDonalds, ate dinner out and wore Keds.

In books, I wasn’t reminded I had to wear hand-me-downs because I was growing too fast and mom couldn’t afford to keep me clothed.

But the one thing books, and their words, did more than anything else, was to heal my spirit when I was exposed to derogatory remarks and ethnic slurs. The most common were: spic, faggot, nigger.

My stepdad was very verbally abusive. He was a Puerto Rican Archie Bunker only not as funny because he meant the things he said. As a child I thought this ignorance was “a poor thing.” Imagine my horror when I realized, as I grew older, that the ignorance was a worldwide epidemic that affected a great majority of people I met.

This is why I’ve always believed in the power of words. They transcend. They are magic. Naysayers will tell you words are simply that…words. But I can tell you from personal experience that words have power beyond anything we will ever know. They have a far deeper impact on the spirit than being slapped around by an abusive parent for no apparent reason.

Don’t think so?

Faggot. Homo. Dyke. Spic. Nigger. Kike. How do those words make you feel?

I’ve always known I was different. I just never knew how or in what way. But when I first heard the Puerto Rican slang for faggot…maricón…that’s when I knew. I cringed, disgusted with the word and hating myself for being “one of those.” It was like someone had beat me, but on the inside. I wanted to die.

Each negative and derogatory remark, every ethnic slur -- whether it pertained to me or not -- was like the slash of a whip or the slice of a knife. Yes. It was that painful. Any gay teenager that has ever been bullied and verbally abused will probably tell you the same. Sadly, we can’t ask those that have been murdered or committed suicide, and all because they were different. But I think the fact that they’re no longer here should be a clue to the damage words can cause and proof that words can lead to violence.

Somehow, through it all, books -- filled with millions of magic spells -- were there to counteract what I experienced. I’m grateful. I’m one of the lucky ones.

I’m not sharing this to gain sympathy or make anyone feel bad. I’m sharing this because I believe there’s hope. Not just ourselves, but for generations to come! The key to each of us growing up in physical, mental and spiritual health -- like with everything -- starts at home.

Just like the people behind the “It Gets Better” campaign, I can tell you that it does. But I don’t think the campaign goes far enough. I think we need more than encouragement, motivation and inspiration. We need to stop and think because even the smallest of words, like the single drop of water that drips in our sink, can cause a great deal of damage.

Because of my experiences as a survivor of physical and verbal abuse, I wrote a mostly-fictional story called, “My ABC’s,” under a different pen name. I wrote it because it was my naïve hope to make parents think about the words they used in front of their kids, to stop before they said anything derogatory against a person or group of people.

I’d love for parents to stop putting people down for being “different.” All that does is perpetuate hate and negativity in a world already bursting at the seams with natural disasters affecting us all. Do we truly need one more thing to add to the human drama?

Perhaps I’m looking at the world through rose-colored glasses. It’s something I’ve always been accused of. Still, I can’t shake the feeling that if I can make just one person aware, make them look at their own wounds, then maybe they’d think twice about using words that are so horribly damaging to our souls.

“My ABC’s” is not an easy read. It’s dark and takes you places you might not want to go. I’d go as far as to say that anyone who’s had a violent childhood or was sexually abused, probably shouldn’t read this story unless they’re already in therapy.

I feel strongly about the message in the book. I think it’s important for people to read “My ABC’s” because I really want our emotional baggage -- as one race, the human race, -- to disappear. The only way I can think of to eliminate that damage is to eradicate derogatory remarks and ethnic slurs from our vocabulary.

If just one person gets the message, perhaps it will spread, and the next generation will never have to experience any kind of abuse or bullying.

Johnny Miles has been writing erotica since 1985. His work has appeared in various magazines but it wasn’t until 2008 that he began to take writing seriously. That’s when he submitted his first m/m romance, Casa-Rodrigo, to e-publisher Loose Id. His second novel, Lauderdale-Hearts, was also released by Loose Id. Now, Johnny is spreading his wings and branching out into different genres.

It is an interesting poem. I admit it is not from this imagination, but from that of my 11 year old daughter. She says it is the inspiration for an upcoming story about ghosts she plans to write.

On this edition of Tell All Tuesday, S.J. Frost – writer of hot erotic gay romance – has agreed to join us and tell us all her secrets!

Tell us a little about yourself!

Sure thing! And thank you so much for having me here, Rebecca! I’m an m/m erotic romance author. I live in Ohio, which thankfully, is finally starting to thaw out from winter. I’m a crazy proud momma of my little guy, and I have quite a few critters running around on my property, domesticated and not, though sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, going all the way back to elementary school when I first learned how to write and bring the stories from my mind to paper. In high school, I started taking writing more seriously, and in college, that’s when I really decided to put all I had into it and really consider getting published, thanks to a certain character, Jesse Alexander, coming to me in what would turn out to be my first novel, CONQUEST.

Do you write exclusively erotic romance?

At this time I do. I would like to eventually work on a fantasy trilogy, since I’ve always had a passion for that genre, but I love the emotional connection between characters that you can create in erotic romance. Bringing two characters together, building a relationship, leading them to love, there’s nothing better than that.

What inspires your stories?

I can find inspiration in a lot of places, music, history, and once in a rare while, actual people. Most of my themes go hand in hand with things I’m personally interested in, like music, but some are inspired by causes where I’d like to get a message across, like bulling. My novella FINDING A DREAM deals with that subject, and it’s also the work where my editor and I are donating our royalties from it to The Trevor Project.

How do you choose a publisher? Who are your current publishers?

These days I’m pretty cozy with MLR Press. I really love being published there, and my editor, Kris Jacen, surpasses phenomenal with her skills and dedication. Back when I was shopping for a publisher for my first novel, CONQUEST, I really wanted to be published with MLR. I had such a good feeling about them, they have a wonderful reputation, but with all the incredible talent there, I wasn’t sure if as a newbie author I’d really have a shot. When they opened their doors to outside submissions, I took the chance, figuring, “Go big, or go home,” and it worked. They accepted my manuscript, and it’s been amazing working with them ever since.

I do have some shorter works at other houses, a novella, “Midnight Dalliance”, at Torquere Press, and a short story, “Kintaro the Golden Boy” in the anthology, Bedknobs and Beanstalks, published at Ravenous Romance. And there are other publishers who I would certainly enjoy working with. I think for me, the most important things when looking at a publisher are, do they have a solid reputation and are their authors happy? Those are key for me.

What is your latest release?

My latest release in my very first foray into vampires, an m/m erotic romance novel titled NATURAL INSTINCTS. I’m so excited about this one and had such a blast writing vampires for the first time.

I love the name – and the cover!! I totally live for vampires.

What is your writing process like? How long does it take you to finish a story from beginning to end?

It takes me quite a while to finish a book. I’m a really slow writer, but I’m also the fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type. If I’m writing a novel, it can take three to six months before I have it finished and revised. Usually when I’m going into a new project, I’ll ponder on it for a few days, trying to get to know the characters, what their motivations are, what challenges will they or have they faced. Once I really start getting a feel for them, I open a fresh Word file and start typing.

Is writing your full-time job? If not, how and when do you find time to write?

Being a mommy is my true full-time job J I actually do most of my writing late at night when the house is finally quiet.

Do you have other published works? Please tell us about them!

I do have a few other published works! I have my m/m rock star novels in the Conquest series, CONQUEST, NO FEAR, KEY TO LOVE, and the spin-off novella, FINDING A DREAM. There are a few more planned in that world, with one getting ready to release soon, BLACK HEART DOWN. I also have a few short stories floating around in various anthologies, including my favorite short, the one I mentioned earlier, “Kintaro the Golden Boy,” which was my interpretation of the Japanese folktale. That one has really inspired me in wanting to write about more samurai someday.

How do you market your work?

I’m pretty low-key when it comes to marketing my work. I like to visit a few blogs to chat about it, some Yahoo groups, Facebook… I take ad space out every once in a while at a few places, but I mostly try to go where I know people are interested in the type of stories I write. It’s all about finding your audience, I think.

I just joined the Yahoo Group started by you, Johnny Miles and Sloan Parker: The Sweet Spot! It looks like it is going to be a lot of fun!

What do you love most about writing?

There’s so much about it I love it’s hard to say what I love most. For the actual writing process, it would be bringing the characters to life, giving them their own unique personalities, watching them become true individuals. Outside the writing process, it’s definitely connecting with readers. I absolutely love interacting with people who share my passion for books, and it doesn’t even have to be mine. I get a lot of enjoyment watching people chat about any books. Of course, it always leads to me spending money and my TBR growing, but I’m good with that! Then when I do get letters from readers who have read and enjoyed my work, that’s the absolute best feeling. It’s made me realize that writing is about so much more than telling a story, it’s about connecting with people.

Who are some of your favorite authors and books?

There’s so many, it’s almost impossible to narrow it down! Let me see…Jambrea Jo Jones certainly comes to mind. I’ll read anything from her. I loved her book RETRIBUTION, one of my favorite characters, Rock, appears in it. He’s getting his own story in the sequel, SALVATION, which is going to be m/m/f, and I’m so excited!

And there are so many others who I know will always deliver a great story, Sloan Parker, Johnny Miles, Ethan Day, AKM Miles…I could gush all day about my favorites!

For outside the m/m genre, Laura Joh Rowland is another big favorite of mine with her Sano Ichiro mystery series set in Tokugawa Japan. Her style is so rich, it puts you right in the time period.

But see what happens when you ask me about books? I just start rambling away! Guess it comes with the job ;-)

Donovan fisted his hand and knocked on the steel door. One, two, three bangs on the windowless entryway. A tiny hole opened and a voice growled.

"Password?" The Warehouse on Sixth Street was the only place this side of the Rio Grande a man like Donovan could go to get what he wanted. Whatever a vamp’s thirst, this joint had just the right mix to quench it. Orders of all shapes and sizes were taken, entrées were made to order.

"Cowboy." Donovan hissed. The word changed every night, but this one wasn’t hard for him to remember. The wordcowboy described exactly what he wanted tonight.

The red metal door swung open and a mountainous man took Donovan’s fifty bucks. The Warehouse had the highest cover charge in the Lone Star State's capital. But it was well worth it.

The long hallway that led to the inner sanctum of the club was dark as midnight except for the running blue light along the edges of the floor. The lights flickered, blinking on and off to the rhythm of a good old country and western tune. All my exes live in Texas crooned George Straight.

Anticipating what he hoped awaited him, Donovan strode with confidence into a classically decorated dancehall. The cavernous room didn't always look the same, but tonight the tavern was decked out in full kicker regalia. A bar glowing with fluorescent beer signs lined one wall and a stage lined another. Rows of tables and chairs stood off the sides of a large dance area. The floor was covered in a thin layer of sawdust, to soak up the beer and other fluids.

Donovan walked to the bar and ordered a drink. "Bud."

The bartender sat down a cold, frothy glass. "What’s good tonight?" Donovan asked.

"We got just about everything." He smiled. Donovan was one of his regular customers.

"It’s Friday," Donovan said with a smirk.

"Yeah," said the bartender.

"I want my regular."

"Yeah." The bartender pointed across the room.

Donovan took two long swigs of his beer and followed the dude’s finger with his eyes. Near the edge of the stage, he saw what he'd come here for.

Donovan had dressed the part tonight, in a crisp button-up shirt and faded Levis. But the guy standing in the shadows had Donovan beat. His long blond hair was pulled back in a slick ponytail visible under his black Stetson. He wore a tight black t-shirt tucked into a pair of skin tight black Wranglers themselves tucked inside a weathered pair of steel toed boots.

Donovan’s mouth watered and his fangs extended.

This was the first time (and I hope not the last) that one of my publishers asked me to write a novel for them!

What the hell had she been thinking to run toward the loch? It circled her, herding her almost.

Still, the voice in the back of her head told her it was lunacy to run toward the loch. What would happen when she reached the water’s edge? She couldn’t swim a stroke, and in this damned confining brocade gown, she’d sink like a stone.

Behind her she heard the drum of hooves in the thick foliage. Adrenaline shot through her veins, propelling her legs faster. Branches lashed at her face and plucked at her gown. Her fingers cramped from holding up her heavy skirts, and the high grasses stung her bare calves. The pines gave way to leafier trees, and soon she would break through the deep woods and onto the shores of the loch.

The beast closed in on her, grunting and gasping in a way that made her think of the men sawing logs for the castle’s new android horse paddock. These mechanical horses needed good, strong fencing that could keep their heavy metal bodies from escaping during a stampede, which frequently happened when they were frightened.

A flash of bristly black hair flickered in the corner of her eye, and she veered sharply left, away from it. The scream was poised on her lips now, ready to be released into the empty woods. Even her strongest bloodcurdling scream would bring no one. She was too far from the castle for even the field workers to hear.

And that beast had tusks like spears on it. She’d be killed for sure, even if she didn’t drown first trying to escape. Could pigs swim?

Back and forth she zigzagged through the woods, thigh muscles burning and forearms tense from holding the weight of her skirts. She fought to remain upright as she forged a path through the web of tree roots. Her throat was clogged with fear.

With a shriek that raised the hair on her neck, the wild boar rushed her. Its meaty body struck the backs of her legs. She pitched forward, releasing her skirts to instinctively catch herself and nearly breaking her neck as she tripped over the mass of spun-gold fabric.

Righting herself, she continued to bolt toward the loch, knowing no other course now, but hoping someone had left a mist boat moored there. The mist on the loch was thick enough to power a lightweight boat halfway around the perimeter of the country. If she could only reach a boat, she’d fire up the engine and race to the middle of the loch, far from the beast pursuing her.

The thunder of hooves bore down upon her. She lunged through a wall of vines, tripping and wheeling, blinded by greenery, branches scratching her face, heels over head, only to fall at the feet of a naked man. As she reeled past, she glimpsed his long, hard shaft boldly dancing between his thighs.

Isolde struck the muddy turf with a grunt, hair falling over her face. Her fingers sank into the dense soil, as did the side of her face. The warm, gritty sand cupped her forehead, nose, the crest of one cheek, and her jaw. She blinked up through the mess of hair drooping over her free eye in time to see the war dance of a man with a battle-ax.

He swung it with ease, though it weighed as much as a small tree. It swooped overhead with a whistling noise and slashed downward, sinking deep into the neck of the pig. A high, keening scream tore from its lungs. The man stepped gracefully forward and, with an almost casual flick of the ax, severed the pig’s head from its body. A thick rope of noxious blood spurted from its neck as its heart continued to pump.

Isolde’s heart knocked her ribs painfully. She lifted her head from the shore with a sucking sound and watched as the man proceeded to do a complex series of whirls and spins with the battle-ax, slicing the air so quickly, the silver blade burned a trace in her vision.

His tanned limbs shone with sweat. The bulging arms brought the weapon down again and again, hacking at the wild boar at his feet. Blood spattered his muscular thighs. His bare feet were black with muck.

She flicked her eyes upward once more, and she found her breath trapped in her throat at the sight of his stunning face. Long blond hair fell loose about his broad shoulders and sculpted chest. The nipples were set into the rounded pectoral muscles like two pale jewels. She saw with a start that they were actually pierced. Two pointed silver bars were fitted through each hard nipple.

Isolde’s own nipples puckered against the hot fabric of her gown. Before he took notice of her scrutiny, she allowed herself a quick peek at the sharply muscled abdomen and lower at the golden brown nest of hair cushioning the longest cock she’d ever seen.

“Do ye not know to whom ye speak?” she asked, swaying on her slippers. One was crooked, and she twisted her foot in the sand to right it. The side of her face felt tight with the drying dirt, and her lashes were caked with it.

But when his beautiful, full lips quirked into a crooked smile, she lost the sharp edge of her anger.

“Why, I’m looking at a princess, surely. The golden cloth ye wear is too fine for a common woman’s, and no milkmaid would wear rings upon every finger. The jeweled comb in yer hair is worth more than my life, I’d wager. And believe me; my life is worth quite a precious sum.”

Isolde lifted her chin at the slight disgust that had seeped into his tone when describing her finery. “What sum could that be for a man who owns no clothes?”

He dropped the ax into the sand and took two menacing steps toward her. He halted within inches, so near that his incredible heat washed over her. It kissed her breasts through the tight brocade and trickled down to squeeze the most intimate spot between her legs. Again that smile flashed, creating a deep line about the corner. “Why, Princess, I’m certain ye’ve heard of me. Posters with my picture line the streets from here to Edinburgh. And yer father, the king, is responsible for my fame, as he is the one to set the price on my head. Alive, I’m worth two thousand pounds. Dead, I’m worth more. Myself, I’d like to remain alive, if only to set eyes on yer striking face again.”

His foot inched forward, his toes bumping her silk slipper and releasing a surge of wetness in her sex. Isolde’s mind screamed to step back, to distance herself from this man, obviously a wanted criminal. If it was discovered that they were alone together, she’d be ruined.

The scent of clean sweat and warm musk penetrated her senses, sending her into a tailspin. The boar had been a warm-up in the face of this terrifying sport.

“Who are ye?” she managed to whisper through the deafening roar of blood in her ears.

He lifted his hands slowly to clamp upon her upper arms, right above the elbow. Heat burned through the fabric sleeves and scalded the flesh beneath. Her heart hammered, and she grew faint.

“Why, Princess, surely must recognize the most famous criminal alive? I am the man who nearly succeeded in killing yer father on the moors some years ago. And believe me; I intend to do it right this time.”

ROOM NUMBER TWELVE is a story about two vampires who like to role play and the encounter they have together as cowboys in a bar on Sixth Street in Austin, Texas. If you've never been to Sixth Street, its a bit like Bourbon Street in New Orleans, but Texas style. The bar in this tale, with rooms upstairs for the patrons to use in living their fantasies doesn't really exist (as far as I know *wink*), but Donovan and Rod have fun there nevertheless!

Meet My Sexy Housewife Barbara

Wow -- it has been a long time since I posted an update! Life has been super busy over the past six months and I have generally only had time to post releases and interviews with other writers . . . . so this post will be a brief update of what's been keeping me busy.

First and foremost . . . day job. So very busy sometimes I don't even realize that the day is over. Yikes!

Family. . . yes, they also need my attention.

And, when I have free time, writing. I am actually very excited about my current writing project. For the first time ever I had one of my publishers ask me to write something. And not just anything, but a novel!! The premise is based on a short story that I have published in the "Once Upon A Threesomes" anthology. Remember that one? A little f/f/f called TEA TIME. It's sort of Desperate Housewives of the 1950's -- but with lots of sex!!

The novel is called DIRTY HOUSEWIVES!

I can't wait to share more about the story, but I'll wait until I am further along in my writing process. For now, I'll say that when these three women meet -- the sparks fly!

On the short story front, I have recently submitted a m/m/m/m football story for RR's upcoming gay football anthology. I am really exciting and hopeful that I get in -- especially since last year's football anthology TIGHT ENDS was my very first publication!! What a nice anniversary gift it would be :)

I also have another m/m on submission about two men in paradise, a bathtub, and a gar of green-striped soap!

Happy New Year and Welcome to the first edition of Tell All Tuesday for 2011. Here in paradise (for many) it will soon be the Year of the Rabbit. A rabbit year is a quiet, placid year after the previous Tiger year. A person born in the Year of the Rabbit has the most fortunate of signs.

We are fortunate to have with us today Sloan Parker! Sloan is a gay romance novelist and a very wonderful person. Thank you for joining us, Sloan.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m from northern Ohio where I live with my partner of too many years to admit and our three neurotic cats. I’m an author of m/m erotic romances and romantic suspense.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing since the second grade when I first entered a short story in a local competition. I didn’t win, but after that there was no turning back. I’d been attacked by the writing bug. During college I began writing suspense and romantic suspense and continued to do so on and off for years without loving the results. Then I read an erotic m/m romance and was inspired. I started writing my own erotic romances and liked the characters, the heat, the passion, and the storylines I was coming up with. A couple years later I finished my first release, MORE, which was published in March 2010.

Do you write exclusively erotic romance?

Currently I’m only writing romances that have some level of erotic content. I’m not sure where my writing will go in the future, but I have a feeling even if there are only one or two sex scenes in my stories, I will probably desire to write those scenes in an explicit way. I love the emotional and sensual power of erotic romances.

What inspires your stories?

I’m inspired by so many things in the world: TV, movies, art, news stories, television, strangers walking along the street, overheard conversations, people watching. Anything, really. The smallest gesture of a stranger can become an entire story in my mind.

How do you choose a publisher? Who are your current publishers?
I’m currently published with Loose Id. When I was preparing to send out the first book that I felt was ready for submission, I created a spreadsheet of e-publishers available for m/m romance, evaluating each for several criteria, including quality of published works, website, cover art, customer service, reputation, contract details, etc. I selected my top three choices of publishers by evaluating the results of that list.

What is your latest release?

My latest release is BREATHE, an m/m suspense available now at Loose Id.

What is your writing process like? How long does it take you to finish a story from beginning to end?

My process seems to always be evolving, but as of now, I outline every story before I start writing (sometimes using note cards to organize my ideas into scenes). While outlining I’ll create character sketches with all sorts of details about my main and secondary characters. Then I write a first draft that’s pretty rough. From there I revise and expand until I’m happy with the story and characters. After that, I edit line by line until it’s as polished as I can make it. My last full-length novel took about 10 months to outline, write, and revise. With each subsequent project, I hope to improve upon that timeframe.

Is writing your full-time job? If not, how and when do you find time to write?

For the past couple of months I’ve been writing (and doing the business tasks related to writing) almost full time since my freelance work has slowly shifted to part-time work. Now I can write during the day and do my other work in the evenings. I’ve found writing and promotion to be a huge undertaking, but also the most rewarding, enjoyable experience of my life.

Do you have other published works? Please tell us about them!

In addition to my latest release, I have another novel published by Loose Id, MORE, an m/m/m polyamory suspense. It’s the story of a confirmed loner who spends one explosive night in a sex club with two men who make him want to break all of his self-protective rules, especially the no-repeat clause. But his father, a senator, is determined to destroy Luke's something more. MORE won this year’s Rainbow Award for Best Gay Contemporary Romance and is a finalist in the 2011 EPIC awards. I also have two free short stories available at my website.

How do you market your work?

So far I’ve done a blend of blogging, social networking, and paid advertising, as well as participating in group discussions, chats, and other author online events. I love connecting with readers, not just to share about my work, but to learn about what they like in the genre (which authors, titles, and themes they enjoy reading). Listening to what readers have to say is helpful in knowing as much as I can about the market and what readers want in a story.

What do you love most about writing?
I love creating the characters: who they are, what they’ve been through, where they think they are going, where they are actually headed, their doubts, fears, lost loves, and more. As I flush out the details of these fictional characters, they become real people and react in very real ways to the conflicts I throw at them. It’s amazing to me how things just start to fall into place once I know how my characters would act and respond in any situation.

Who are some of your favorite authors and books?

This is such a difficult question. There are so many authors whose work I’ve enjoyed. I’ll name a few of my favorite authors (all who’ve had several books I’ve loved): Stephen King, Michael Crichton, Lisa Gardner, Sue Grafton, Dean Koontz, Robin Cook, Robert McCammon, W. A. Hoffman, Linda Howard, Josh Lanyon, Jordan Castillo Price, Tere Michaels, Ethan Day, J. L. Langley, Ally Blue, M. L. Rhodes, Lee Rowan. And that’s just a start.
