Tell All Tuesday!

Welcome gentle readers to another edition of "Tell All Tuesday" where we get to learn all the nitty gritty about a fabulous erotic romance writer.  In this week’s edition, I'd like to introduce you to DC Juris.  I have the pleasure of being a fellow author with DC at Ravenous Romance, Noble Romance Publishing, and Breathless Press.  DC's stories are so hot, they will leave you wanting more . . . more . . . well, just more!
Tell us a little about yourself, DC.

I grew up in Lakeland, Florida, so I'm a Southern transplant – I moved to NY back in 2001 for an Internet romance that lead to marriage a couple years later. I'm a transgender man, which means I was born anatomically female but have always emotionally and mentally identified as male, and I now live as male. I'm bisexual, married to a wonderful man, but still searching for a female soul-mate to complete my little triangle of life. (hint, hint, ladies) I'm out and proud now, but I spent most of my youth and a good deal of my adult life in the closet, hiding both my sexual orientation and my gender realizations, so I know and understand both sides of the fence on that issue. I have two great kids (both grown), three dogs (not all grown!), and two cats. Aside from that, I love photography, antiques, home improvement, long drives to nowhere in particular, curling up with a good tv show/book/movie, and eating delicious food that I didn't have to cook!

How long have you been writing?

I've been writing since I could string sentences together. Literally since before I entered Kindergarten.

Do you write exclusively erotic romance?

I don't know if it's erotic or not, but I write exclusively steamy/hot/explicit, yep.

No kidding!  Writing doesn’t come much hotter than yours!

What inspires your stories?

I don't think of them as "my" stories – they're my characters' stories. Usually my characters just step forward at random times and tell me about themselves and their histories. Although, recently Hubby pitched an idea to me which I plan to run with.

How do you choose a publisher?

::laughs:: My publishing philosophy is this: I'll give any publisher a shot once. I may or may not go back, but I'll give anyone a chance. I'm in a different place than a lot of writers, in that this isn't about the money for me. I have the luxury of not having to worry about how much I make, so I don't have to stress as much about which publishers sell with what sites, and which ones offer which royalty rates, etc. For me, publication is about seeing my work to fruition, and the money is just a nice bonus.  I've gotten a lot of flack from authors for that viewpoint, and for the publishers I've chosen to work with, but I can honestly say I've been happy with my experiences with all of them, and would publish with them all again given the chance.

Who are your current publishers?

I'm currently published with Ravenous Romance, Torquere Press, Noble Romance Publishing, MLR Press, Breathless Press, and Coming Together (which donates all royalties to charities).

What is your latest release?

"Sundae Surprise”, a short m/m contemporary story available through Breathless Press.

BLURB:
Dean learns the true meaning of the words "playing with your food" when his hot and hunky roommate, Rick, interrupts his plans for some solo Sunday afternoon fun. Human sundae aside, Dean discovers a kinship with Rick that he never knew existed, and a basis for what promises to be a delicious relationship. But when Rick overreacts to Dean's nonchalance after their first time, can Dean convince Rick that what they have is real?

Sundae Surprise” will be out September 10, 2010!

I also have another m/m romance coming soon with Breathless Press – "Dreams Come True" due out 8/13. "Dreams" is sort of a fantasy/sci-fi-ish contemporary.

Man, that cover is awesome!  I really need to go out and buy some ice cream now!

What is your writing process like?  How long does it take you to finish a story from beginning to end?

How long it takes depends on the word count, but I can typically bang out up to 10K in a month. I usually start a new story by typing or handwriting everything that comes to me, regardless of where it fits in the story. I piece it all together later, leaving gaps if there are any, and then print it out. I do a rough edit, looking for things I either need to research and verify or scenes I need to add, which I keep track of in a notebook. Then I put the necessary stuff in and do at least two more edits. Depending on how long the work is and how confident I am about it, I'll either send it to someone to beta read or not. I'll sit on it for at least a week while I mull things over, and then I'll submit it.

Is writing your full-time job?  If not, how and when do you find time to write?

Sadly, writing isn't my full-time job. I'm the Office Manager for a veterinary clinic, but I have a very flexible boss. I work Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, and then I have Wednesday and Thursday to spend writing. Otherwise, I write whenever I can find time (I've been known to scribble in a notebook while driving to work). I force myself to write something every day, no matter how tired, sick, or disinterested I am. I'm blessed with a talent for this – I feel like I should use it while I can.

Do you have other published works? Please tell us about them!

I do! My first publication was an m/m story called "Always, My Prince" and was featured in the "I Kissed A Boy" anthology from Ravenous Romance. My transgender romance "Even Guys Cry" is in the "I Do, Two" anthology at MLR Press. My Torquere works include "Cupid Knows" in the "Shot Through the Heart" anthology, "Actions Speak Louder" in the "Silence Toybox" and my very first single author work, "On God's Honor" (all m/m).  I also have a ménage short story entitled "Tailor Made", included in the "Coming Together: As One" anthology.

How do you market your work?

Ugh. I'm bad about marketing. Honestly if I have a spare moment from working, being a dad, and being a husband, I spend it writing. I do announce my releases on Facebook, Twitter, and Live Journal, but that's about as far as I've gotten to date.

What do you love most about writing?

I'm about to sound completely insane here, but this is the truth: the deep sigh of contentment from my characters when they see that their lives won't fade away into nothing, that there will be a monument to them, that people will know they existed. ::sheepish grin::

Who are some of your favorite authors and books?

Okay, I tried to answer this several times, but I kept forgetting people and the list kept getting longer and longer and longer. Pretty much everyone on my Facebook friends list. There. LOL

Now that you’ve whetted our appetite, where can we learn more about you, DC?

And find my work at:

Leave a comment below (including your e-mail)  and you'll be entered to win a copy of “On God's Honor.”  DC will pick a winner at midnight.

Too Much To Do . . .

To Little Time!

Never has a phrase echoed more truth than now!  The last few weeks have been so busy that I haven't had the time to update the blog!  What could be taking up so much time?  Here's a run-down:

1.  Editing "Behind the Bench" the first in my erotic legal short story series from Breathless Press.  The story is due out November 12, 2010.

2.  Editing "The Outlaw" my M/M wild west novella from Dreamspinner Press.  I don't have a publication date yet, but I hope it will be soon.  This is one of my favorite stories!  These guys are hot!!

3.  Finished "No Brainer" my zombie romance novel and sent it off to my crazy fabulous agent Saritza.

4.  Finished the first short story to be included in an anthology I hope to put together with my friend Joe.  You remember Joe? He was my very first guest for my Tell All Tuesday series - an incredibly talented erotica writer.  My first story is a F/F called "Locker Room."  I'm also close to being finished with the second story, a M/M called "As seen on TV."

5.  Finding out I will be included in Ravenous Romance's Fangangers Anthology.  Details to come soon, but given the line up of authors -- it is sure to be a super hot and sexy read!

6.  Ushering my oldest daughter into womanhood.  No kidding.  She's 11.  YIKES!

7.  Starting a new job . . . a new job that keeps me very, very busy.  So busy that I actually haven't had much time to write over the last week (the above list notwithstanding).

Whew -- I'm tired just thinking about all this . . . and everything else I still have to do!

I better get writing . . . .

Until next time, Aloha!

Tell All Tuesday!

Welcome to the next edition of Tell All Tuesday where we get to meet and learn more about another fabulous erotic romance author!  This Tuesday, I’d like to introduce you all to my friend and fellow Dreamspinner Press author LORI TOLAND.

Lori is an incredible author who . . . well, let me just let Lori tell you about herself and her writing!

Tell us a little about yourself, Lori.

I’m in my 30’s and I’m a CEO for my company. I’m married to a cute British guy and I have two cats, Chester and Milly.

Wow, a CEO!  I can’t believe you have time to write!  That is amazing.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing since I was thirteen when I read the Vampire Diaries by L. J. Smith (yes, like the TV series. Book series is better because Damon isn’t such a pussy in it). I wrote a horrible fanfic for that on a typewriter. I’ve written stuff since then but not on regular basis until now.

Do you write exclusively erotic romance?

I only write erotic romance right now, mainly M/M although I have a couple menages I’m working on. I love the idea of YA though.

What inspires your stories?

I write M/M romance and I just love two men falling in love with each other. The vulnerability as they open to each other just makes my heart skip a beat.

How do you choose a publisher?  Who are your current publishers?

I really love Dreamspinner Press for many different reasons. First off, their books are beautifully designed and their stories are top notch. Mara McKennen is just an incredible Art Director so to work with her is awesome. Elizabeth, Lynn, Anne and Julianne are wonderful editors and I feel I have learned so much from everyone. To be in their stable of writers there is a great honor. Secondly, they have such a strong business model there and as a CEO, I really admire that. DSP for me was a no brainer for me. They are my only current publisher right now although I do have a story into another publisher in an answer to a special submission call through them.

How I choose a publisher, obviously DSP was an easy choice for me. They are well established, professional and awesome to work with, but I submit where I read at. If I like the books from a particular publisher, it makes sense I might fit in there.

I agree.  Dreamspinner is a wonderful publisher!

What is your latest release?

My latest release is with Dreamspinner Press and it is “The Furry Matchmaker” and I hope you like it.

Dave Wallace is on his way to work when the sight of a tiny kitten stranded on an interstate overpass nearly breaks his heart. After he stops to save her, he goes to the nearest vet and meets Dr. Christian Prince, a gorgeous man David assumes is straight and completely uninterested in him. When Dave leaves he knows he'll never see the vet again... until Christian calls him about the kitten, and maybe more.

What is your writing process like?  How long does it take you to finish a story from beginning to end?

I am definitely a pantser meaning I write by the seat of my pants. Unfortunately, that can mean I need to re-write parts of my book to fit the end. But I write where the characters take me. Recently I wrote a story where one of the characters was a top at the beginning but turned into a total bottom at the end. I was shocked.

A novel length book (60,000 words) takes me a couple of months but depending on what is happening that month in my business, it could take longer. Short stories are awesome because I can finish those in a few days.

Is writing your full-time job?  If not, how and when do you find time to write?

My writing time is unfortunately fit in while working the 16-18 hours a day being a CEO calls for so my writing process is all over the place. Sitting down and writing for more than a few minutes is something I dream of and on my days off, which are very rare, I can often be found on the couch with a coffee and my laptop, pounding away.

I do try to make the time to write. Like when my husband and friend went to the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, I took my laptop along because that’s my idea of fun. If I have writer’s block, there is something else going on in my life that has nothing to do with writing or the story itself. I do experience burn out sometimes (like today I’m burnt out. I wrote 10,000 words in three days) but writer’s block will have me examining my life to figure out what else is wrong.

Do you have other published works?  Please tell us about them!

My full length novel is “The Replacement Guitarist” and here is more information about it:
Blaze Shinozuka, a hot talent who auditions as a replacement guitarist for world famous pop star Cassie, is thrilled when he draws the attention of celebrity manager Jason Stockton-and not only because it could make his career. His instant attraction to Jason sends his world careening off its axis and drives him to make a move. But Jason reacts by trying to put distance between them, and Blaze finds himself thrust into the gritty world of rock 'n' roll while falling for a man he shouldn’t touch, let alone love.
Straight-laced Jason Stockton is always professional and never dips his pen in the company ink. But there's something about Blaze that leaves him wanting what he shouldn't, and the guitarist-s exotic beauty and compelling innocence turn out to be the temptation Jason can-t resist. But just one lie in the national media sets off a chain of events that pushes Jason and Blaze apart. Can they find a way to be together in the cutthroat, jealous world of rock 'n' roll even after the music stops?

The Replacement Guitarist

There is a sequel to “The Replacement Guitarist” currently in the works, hopefully coming out at Christmas.
And then there is “Necking” and this is an anthology my story “Perform for Me” is in. The anthology is based around threesomes. Here is more info about it:
Corey is a successful thirty-five-year old doctor who lives with his partner of seven years, Justin. And Corey likes to watch. He enjoys it so much that he decided to join a sex club, not to participate, but to sit in the shadows and observe. When his favorite couple decides to invite him to join, can he take the risk of becoming part of show?

How do you market your work?

Working with an established publisher like Dreamspinner Press gives me an audience but I do promote myself through Facebook, Goodreads, Twitter and other forums. One of the best reviewers out there is Elisa Rolle and she is http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/. She loves this genre and while she is kind with her praise, she is honest about the book.

What do you love most about writing?

Besides watching sexy, shiny boys having great sex and falling in love? I do love that it’s an outlet for my stress. I can fix any problems in my writing, the characters always save the day at the end. Romance always has a happily ever after.

Who are some of your favorite authors and books?

I love Mary Calmes. Seriously. Her books are awesome, especially “Change of Heart” but I may be biased cuz I love cats! Her books are the reason I decided to try out writing first person. Now I’ve been corrupted. J Surf on over and let her know I sent you. Btw, Mary is a resident of the awesome state of Hawaii, like our host Rebecca.

Some of my other favorites are J. L. Langley, Heidi Cullinan, M. Jules Aedin and Marie Sexton and of course last but definitely not the least, Rebecca Leigh J. I also have a couple of favorite authors that have stories coming out soon.

One is RJ Scott and her website is RJ's Blog and she has “Oracle” coming out from Silver Publishing in August.

Another is Kele Moon and she has a menage story coming out soon from Ellora’s Cave and her website is Kele's website

I love the cover for The Replacement Guitarist.  Can we see more of your covers?

WOW -- Those are super hot!

Rebecca, I love your work and thank you for asking me to guest blog! I hope to be blogging from Oahu soon! Mahalo!

Aww, you are too kind.  Mahalo (Thank you) Lori for stopping by.  You are an inspiration to us all!

Happy Release Day!

It's here!!

ONE WAY TRIP

My short M/M space odyssey in which a human finds sex (and love) in the arms of a Martian.

Captain Jay Marcos is on a mission to Mars as part of an international endeavor to find a planet suitable for terraforming.  With governmental support waning, however, Captain Marcos's trip becomes one way.  Once he lands on Mars, Jay doesn't find a new home for humans.  But he finds one for himself.

On Mars, Jay meets Raem, leader of the indigenous Rahitians.  Raem welcomes Jay to his world and into his bed.  Together, they share a cosmic sexual encounter like none ever experienced between a human and an alien.  More than just hot, steamy sex -- Jay and Raem find love.
